FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013 DAY 1 – YELLOWCARD

Continuing our highlights from DAY 1 of FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013

Making the rounds in the alternative rock scene since 1997, YELLOWCARD is a band that holds a special place in the hearts of many of the genre’s fans. The group played a comprehensive and charged show on Fuji Rock Festival’s white stage, a show chock full of classics as well as tunes from their latest album, with their most popular tracks “Ocean Avenue,” “Way Away” and “Only One” evoking a seriously noisy response from the audience – it was one of the few sets at Fuji Rock festival that saw crowd surfers floating their way to the front of the stage.

Frontman Ryan Key’s performance was by no means lacking in passion, however it was difficult for him to hold anyone’s attention for long whilst electro-violinist Sean Mackin was putting on such a magnetic show. Perhaps compensating for the violin’s usual lack of association with rock music, Mackin drew everyone’s attention by throwing himself around the stage and looming over the audience, all the while alternating between maniacal expressions and massive grins as he furiously played his instrument.

Yellowcard are releasing an acoustic version of their 2003 hit album “Ocean Avenue” on August 13th, and are promoting it by way of a worldwide tour until the end of November this year.
