FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013 DAY 3 – TORO Y MOI

Continuing our highlights from Day 3 of FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2013

Chilled out electro-vibe artist TORO Y MOI had audience members grooving in the mud at the White Stage on the Sunday, paying no mind to the drizzly weather.

The man behind the moniker is Chazwick Bundick, a 26 year old from South Carolina playing as Toro Y Moi since 2007 and so far releasing three albums plus a handful of offerings from his solo side-projects. His latest album “Anything In Return” possesses a couple of tracks with a much more retro dance vibe compared to the chillwave sounds of his previous two releases, Bundwick attempting to move away from that genre and more into dance stylings.

Visually this wasn’t a particularly exciting set, with Bundwick stuck behind his equipment and his hands busy for most tracks, and his touring bandmates not being particularly active, however this didn’t stop fans from dancing their hearts out to Toro Y Moi’s smooth beats, probably taking advantage of a slight break from the pouring rain.

The lack of dancing on stage was a bit of a disappointment, especially considering that Bundwick has some pretty sweet moves which he shows off in his video for hit track “Say That” where he grooves alone in different outdoor settings.

Toro Y Moi will be playing a comprehensive US tour in October, followed by Big Day Out in Australia next January.
